Summer Cruise 07 |
Cruise notes from Doug and Indra Patrick
We had a great cruise this year thanks to the efforts of many people but
especially the cruise hosts Jim and Grace Pennington aboard Krista Lee.
The cruise started with a rough crossing on Saturday morning Aug 4. Indra and I
stayed behind to watch the fireworks finals anchored right off Third Beach
overnight and headed for Gabriola passage on Sunday morning. It was rough on
Sunday morning as well. We got to Ganges about noon on Sunday with our guests my
sister Bon and husband Steve aboard Meziadin. We had the required attitude
adjustment with Pat and Anne Risdon and Moyra aboard Annie Mac III, Terry and
Madeline Hermary with Nicholas and Mathew aboard Opto-Mistic and Brian and
Tannis Clegg and Drew aboard Panacea.
Aug 6 we headed off to Brentwood Bay and visits to the Butchart Gardens. Krista
Lee decided to chop some fire wood with their prop on the way. More about this
later. In Brentwood we met up with Stan and Mary Johnson on Eagle’s Moon (Stan
working on his maserator so no hand shakes; we just waved) and Alan and Candice
Kwinter aboard Sabra our token, but beautiful sail boat.
On Aug 8 we headed out to Telegraph Harbour Meziadin did some crab and Prawn
fishing and we visited the murals in Chemainus.
On Aug 10 we headed for Naniamo where Krista Lee headed for the travel lift.
After a record time repair we were down to just Meziadin and Krista Lee and on
Aug 12 we headed to Schooner Cove for the night and a look at the Fairwinds golf
course and a requisite beer in the club house.
On Aug 13 we headed to Edgemont and met up with the second week team of Art and
Cathy Cowie aboard At Last and Terry and Karin Johnston on Panakeia where after
the nice tour we suffered from severe boat envy (at least I did). We walked out
to the Skookumchuck running at 14 knots and watched some very brave kayakers
‘play’ in the rapids.
On the 14th we headed for Princes Louisa and Chatterbox falls and 2 very nice
and hot days on the dock at the falls. At Last had overheating problems and
headed back for Pender for repairs. At the falls we met our final additions Nils
and Helena Wennerstrom aboard Nautica moored to a buoy at MacDonald Island and
we also added Earl and Tunshin Everall at the dock.
After swimming and great pot luck dinners (and a little to much schnapps thanks
to Nils) we headed back for Pender Harbour on the 16th and the wrap up of the
cruise. We split up and headed home from Pender Harbour but the beleaguered At
Last overheated again and returned to Pender Harbour for repairs AGAIN.
Other than some needed repairs we had a good trip. I really appreciate all the
members and their guests. A great bunch to travel and visit with on the most
amazing boating paradise in the world.
The whole trip was 301.5 nautical miles over 14 days not including my trip to
and from Deep cove.
Enjoy the pictures. Doug and Indra Patrick
