All the Reasons To Become A False Creek Yacht Club Member

Camaraderie

We’re a small, fun, friendly, relaxed and casual club where you’ll feel welcome and make new friends!

Location, location. Location.

Just minutes from English Bay, minutes from Downtown and the Granville Island shops, and a great place to see the fireworks, from your boat or from the award-winning clubhouse.

We’re Surprisingly Affordable!

From membership fees and dues to moorage, food, and social beverages, you can’t beat the FCYC for member value, whether you’re a boater, love watersports, or just enjoy being by the water. Moorage rates are some of the lowest in the Lower Mainland.

Reasonable wait list for moorage

Contact our Dock Manager for up to date wait times. We have a very active sublease program with members who are gone on long-term cruising, and abundant winter moorage options at our Bowen Island outstation.

Unique Outstation Program

Some yacht clubs have expensive and underutilized private outstations which require members to spend boating time maintaining the outstations. Not at the FCYC! We make use of existing marina facilities to recreate the experience without the cost & sweat. We have 10 along the coast, see them all on the Go Cruising page. We’re also proud members of a world-wide reciprocal program!

Active Cruising Calendar

We have everything from pub crawls, wine-tastings, foodie cruises, hiking or golf cruises to anchoring/stern-tying cruises in more remote areas. Members consistently tell us that they learn more about boating on one of our cruises than they ever expected (even those with very large boats who belong to other yacht clubs). Daily Happy Hour is a given.

Active Clubhouse

Come enjoy our award-winning food and bar service, at great prices. Bring your friends to the best deck in Vancouver. We have a variety of events year-round, so its easy to make new friends.

SUP/Kayak Use

What a great way to get out on the waters of False Creek and English Bay and meet others who share your interest! With just one all-inclusive fee, this is a huge value!

Which Level of Membership is Right for You?

I own a boat or I’m thinking about buying a boat, and I WANT moorage

ACTIVE membership is best for you because it immediately locks in your seniority on the moorage waitlist. It’s our premier membership tier and affords all privileges of every membership level, plus voting rights, the opportunity to hold a board position, access to all outstations, and an opportunity for full time moorage or sublease moorage in our False Creek Marina and Bowen Outstation.

Permanent moorage is assigned as it becomes available and is determined via seniority and boat size. FCYC has moorage with a variable wait list depending on size of the boat. Typically boats in the 28-35’ range have been accommodated within 1-3 years while larger sizes take a bit longer.

Sublease moorage is often overlooked as an option but is often available within a short timeframe as our cruisers love to be away for extended cruising periods. Ask for details and availability.

ACTIVE Membership pays for itself, with over $2000 of benefits every year + moorage savings!

✓ Take advantage of the member pricing on food and beverages at the Clubhouse (you’re going to eat out anyway, right?).

✓ Use the Bowen Island outstation year-round, receive up to a $500 moorage credit at 10 marinas along the coast and take advantage of a big list of reciprocals.

✓ Significant savings on typical moorage rates in the Vancouver area (up to $11.28/ft/mo), once you’re assigned moorage.

NOTE: As with all yacht clubs in the Vancouver area, a wait list is established and is based on seniority and overall dimensions of the craft. Guaranteed promises of moorage cannot be made; rather reliance on history suggests that movement through the wait lists is possible. In all instances, a conversation about the wait list with the existing Rear Commodore Marina is advised, given that he/she is most familiar with current movement and opportunities.

I own a boat or I charter, so I don’t need moorage but I want to CRUISE with experienced boaters

CRUISING membership is ideal for you! You have all the rights of every membership level EXCEPT you do not accrue seniority towards moorage, and you are not eligible for full time moorage or subleases at the FCYC marina facility.

We have a very innovative approach to Outstations and the most active cruising calendar in the Lower Mainland, with weekend and longer-term cruising from the San Juans to Alaska and everywhere in between. Many cruises have a special theme that reflect member interests such as a pub crawl or hiking-focus. And if you want to learn more about boating, you’re in the right place to learn or get better at everything from anchoring and stern-tying to trip planning, weather forecasting, boat maintenance, and safety.

FAQ

How do I become a member?

When can I access the marina and clubhouse?

How long have you been around for?

Since 1981, when a small group of passionate and committed boaters at a marina near the current Cambie Street Bridge) decided to form a Yacht Club that would become the Star of False Creek. The idea was for a new Club in the heart of the City offering an exciting social and recreational environment unique in the Downtown/False Creek core in addition to traditional boating activities. When that marina disappeared as part of the Expo 86 development, there’s a fascinating story about how the club overcame the odds and secured its current location. The Clubhouse opened in December 1989. Read the fascinating story and history here.
